Perhaps the episode where they make fun of pokemon... And then rolling in the title song for Pokemon while they do something fitting... It might be alright if the cartoon makes fun of Anime

Has to be decided if it's ok though...

Man, i wanted to contribute, but i have no idea how to put DVD's "into" the PC...
i assume ripping the DVD's is way to go, but isn't that illigal..?
And i heard Ripping DVD's take pretty much time... is there something else i can do to make my DVD movies appear on my PC..?

All 6 DVD's of Excel Saga will probably take QUITE some time.. :?

Anyways, i'm looking VERY much forward to see what people will make for AMV Hell 4... :)

Ripping doesn't take much time at all. I copy the video files straight to my computer as .vob files then convert them to .avi files. As for your question if it's illegal, it depends. If you own the DVDs then no it isn't. You can't put them up on the internet for people to download, and you can't put it up on any P2P programs. They are only intended for home use. If you went to the rental store and copied them straight to your computer then returned them the next day then that would be illegal. There may be other ways to capture it to your computer by getting a video capture card and playing it from your TV, but that would be more time consuming than just ripping it (for me at least). Hope that helped out :P

When ripping and/or converting, one of the main things to look out for is the little DivX logo in the bottom right hand screen. If you are wanting to make clips for AMV hell 4, omitting the DivX logo is one of the rules...along with the creator's logo.

Well thank you alot Phatpug :)

I have another question, as i would not like massive decreased video quality
Would anyone care telling me which exact programs you'd recomend for use of all this (ripping, decrypting or whatever is all needed)
Is "DVD Decrypter" what you guys use..?

Also, for actual video editing, i have only Windows Movie Maker 2... This program/piece of garbage is not much of my taste, as it seems to decrease quality too greatly whatever i do...

I might get Magix Movie Maker... at least that program is more fair with quality, and has alot more usefull features
Unless anyone can suggest anything better (as long as it's free, i'm going for it)

Phatpug

Programs I use:

WinAVI ---> to covert .vob files into .avi format. If you get this program watch out because the DivX logo goes on there unless you pay for it...I think. I found a way to do it without getting the DivX logo but I'm not on that computer and I don't remember what it was . As for your quality, it depends how you convert it. Before you convert your vob files (if you are using my method that is) you should be able to go into the advance options and mess around with the quality settings.

Vegas 7.0b is my editing software (as well as some other programs like adobe after effects, etc.) And no this program isn't free nor is it cheap *cough* $600 *cough* (thank you school :D). This editing software is easy to learn and it's professional editing software. Do your research...

If you're looking for free programs...you get what you "paid" for.

Hope that helps

Hope this helps...

Uncompressed audio formats (often referred to as PCM formats) are just as the name suggests ? formats that use no compression. This means all the data is available, at the risk of large file sizes.

It's just some basic editing terminology. All I know about audio is that there are three formats: Uncompressed, lossless, and lossy. Uncompressed is the way to go.

No, edit your video just like a normal AMV and assure your video meets all of the technical guidelines. From Zarxrax's server on the FTP client, the only files I've noticed people uploading were their AMVs along with a .txt file.

People should be able to resume. I cant add overwrite support because quite frankly a lot of the people uploading stuff dont know what the hell they are doing, and there is a big risk someone would go and delete everyone else's videos :\

If you need to resend something, just rename it first.

Well if it took you that long then it must be pretty good. I probably spent more time downloading programs and converting files then I did actually editing my two videos, a 20 second and a 9 second. I think I did a pretty good job with editing them though, and after all the idea is probably more important than the editing. I really liked the idea for one of mine but I'm not sure if the other one was quite as good. Ideas are the hardest part in my opinion. :D

Hi,
Hope I'm not out of line with this, being I'm just a salivating fan rather than creative talent...

Having experienced exhibiting AMVh3 in a somewhat unpredictably noisy environment (see burningman.com) I have one request for AMVh4:

If possible, it would be helpful if the sound levels could be more consistent from segment to segment.

This is probably not as noticeable in a less whacked out environment. In my situation, I'm striving to keep the movie sound from being wiped out by surrounding cacophony, and at the same time not fry our audience's ears. I do try to ride gain on the sound during AMVh3, but it's not as easy as it sounds. It's a distracting environment. :)

I realize getting the levels in line may be a technical challenge (or perhaps just a colossal pain in the ass), seeing as the levels in the submissions will be naturally be all over the place. (I had some video put together by a friend who does editing, and the editing software's feature for automatically adjusting sound level turned out to be amazingly useless. So I can appreciate that sound levels might be something that is not easily tackled on a project of this size.)

Oh well, I'll shut up now. Tried to frame this as a suggestion rather than a bitch, hope it reads that way. Seeing as I haven't run across anyone else mentioning it, it probably does seem bitchy. :( oops.

PS. I'm thrilled spitless that 4 is on the way, and will be happy to get it whatever way it comes. Also very happy that non-song audio is back in the mix. I think it works very well to break up the songs here and there. I was missing that in CE. Looking forward to hosting amv hell 4 at burning man '08!

thanks,
larry

Start button-->All Programs-->DivX-->DivX Codec-->Decoder Configuration Utility

From here there should be 3 tabs at the top. Click on the tab called Toolbar. From there just uncheck the "Show DivX waterlogo mark" option. Yeah, it's so simple and yet alot of people don't know how to do it xD.

Why would quality take a hit from decrypting the VOBs? (unless

You need DGI Index and VirtualDubMod to convert your .vob files into nice big .avi files

Actually, I think VDubMod will open the VOB files directly, IF you don't want to do any processing such as IVTC anyway.

Why both; what do they do individually?
DGIndex will index the frames in the VOB files, allowing for easy frame-accurate access. It then outputs a .D2V file which lists the frame numbers, their byte position in the file, and other details needed to decode the frame properly.

You'd usually then feed that D2V file to AVISynth, which is a scripting language that allows you do do filtering and editing of video and audio data. You'd load the D2V file into AVISynth using Mpeg2Source (which is part of a plugin that comes with DGIndex), then you'd use one of many different methods to Inverse Telecine back to 23.976fps progressive source, and possibly do some color correction filters and possibly letterbox a widescreen source. This script won't do anything by itself, however. You need to load it into a program that asks AVISynth for frames and then saves them out.

VirtualDubMod is a linear editing and filtering program. You'd use this to open the VOB, D2V, or AVS file and write out an AVI file. It is based on a slightly simpler program named VirtualDub, which doesn't open VOB files, among other things.

Well if you need flyer's or posters to give out at the Anime Weekend Atlanta here's something for ya.

They still need work, but I made two so far (and yes it's an edit of the Transformers teaser poster.)

Made a third one and the "AMV Hell 4" title has now some 3D look to it.

Well here's the finish version of all 3 posters I made (I might make more). I know you said you don't need them, but I made them for the fun of it. I'll try them out at and a few other anime forums.

Also, I found some great songs for the movie's intro that fits the AMV Hell series' style.

Album:Aqua Team Hunger Force The movie soundtrack.
Songs: track 2 - "Groovy Time for a Movie Time", track 3 - "Cut You Up With a Linoleum Knife"

I say combine the songs, use digimon season 1 for the first song(Groovy Time), then use Hiruma Youichi (Eyeshield 21) for the first singer, and Naruto for the second singer ("If I see you video taping this movie...") for the second song.

You can hear the songs at this myspace page.

For all of us that don't really have a chance to be at Atlanta premier(I happen to live in Finland), when will the downloadable video be made available?

Shortly afterwards. Within 1 week most likely.

Just to say Zarx,

IF you give out DVDs at AWA people will probably rip it and put it on the internet. But I'm guessing you don't care xD.

Just curious but, what is the odds of being able to download AMV hell 4 tomorrow night? I was planning a small get together at my house to watch it since there is no way i could make it to AWA.

Have you not read anything? AMV Hell 4 probably won't be available for download for another week or 2.

actually i have but information has been conflicting... (i.e. the above posts about someone ripping the dvd vs the front page) i realize it will be a bit for an "Official" release but perhaps someone may post a video that people can watch while we wait for the final product

No, I was saying, if someone had the DVD from AWA the first thing they would do is go home and rip it; then put it on the internet. I posted that before the update on the main page. I dunno if what I said provoked him to change his decision, but it doesn't really bother me xD
