Now that I've started making AMVs I've decided to try contributing to AMV Hell as well - however, I'm encountering some difficulty in compressing my video into a format that Zarxax requires for submission, and I'd appreciate some guidance from more experienced hands.

Following the instructions on the AMV Minis submission guidance page, I have installed both Avisynth 2.5 with all Full options (using Avisynth_258.exe) and Zarx264gui. The video that I am exporting to the Zarx264gui program is an uncompressed .AVI file.

When placing this file in the "Input Video" line of Zarx264gui, however, I eno****er the following error message, where "mini1" was the name of the original .AVI file:

Once this is done, an Avisynth script bearing the file name shown in the error message does appear in the Videos folder, but trying to put that in any input line also results in the same error.

Is anyone familiar with this sort of event, and are there any workarounds?

Thanks in advance.

It's a bit besides the point of what I want to get at at this thread, Tazuto, but to answer your question: the desktop is fanart (not by me) of Karluk and Amira, newlyweds of an arranged marriage and the main characters of Otoyomegatari. It's a manga by Mori Karou, who also drew the Victorian-era romance Emma.

Here's the full image:

What do you choose for the settings?

I reduce the Quantiser to 18 as instructed in the submission guidance, and keep everything else at their defaults - the Mode as Consistent Quality, the Presets as Normal.

I'm not sure that the setting are the issue, though - the error appears whenever I try to put files in the input bars, not when I press "Encode".

This is because your avi file is not uncompressed, but it is saved with a DV codec.

When you drag your file there, it should generate a .AVS file with the same name as your original file. Open this file in a text editor and Change the part that says
"AviSource("
to "DirectShowSource("

When I release a new version, I'll have it do this automatically. I just formatted my computer to install windows 7 though, so it might take me a few days to get it all up and running.

Thanks for the pointer, Zarxrax. Forgive my computer illiteracy - I'm still pretty new to the wonderful world of video editing so I don't really have a full appreciation of everything yet, although I'm reading up on your revised guides over at animemusicvideos.org so hopefully I won't be so clumsy in future.

Sorry to have troubled you with this - I hope that the clip I'm submitting now is worth a chortle and makes up for it! :)
