Hi there! I'm new here- never posted in the forums, but you might remember me me for that Sol Badguy AMV I did in AMVHell 4. Or, maybe not. Eh.

Anyway, I need some help guys!

I switched a computer not too long ago, and when I'm trying to use Windows' Movie Maker I'm having a strange error. When I try to import an AVI clip into my project, I get this error message:

"--- cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again."

Now, I use the K-lite codec pack. Can anyone help me out here? I'm itching to make something new!

That's weird. When I started out with Windows Movie Maker I was told somewhere that AVI was the best format to use, and I never had problems with it... I'm not good with too much of the technical stuff. If it tells you what it will accept then you could try a file converter to change AVI into something else, otherwise I'd look for troubleshooting or something online.

well not sure if i can help at all but whenever i had problems with programs not accepting videos - i just downoaded almost any codec that would help sove my problems....i downloaded and installed 2 codec packs and have almost no problems what-so-ever...unless i have to convert the file itself but my suggestion would be to get these 2 codec packs - i don't want to actually post links to them in case somebody wants to say their viruses or something but just google them and should beable to find them no problem.

the problem might be your OS i have vista and i get the same error message with mine, so i switched to AVS editor which you have to unfortunatly register and pay for, which so far i have no problems with

I've never really tried movie maker, never really tried to make an AMV, and I've wanted too. Already have an idea for one that's a mashing of scenes from Fist of the North Star with the Jack Black line about swallowing Gravy from Tropic Thunder. If I knew what I was doing, i'd make this, but I don't know jack about making AMV's.

Hmm, never had that problem with WMM when I used to use it. Since you have k-lite, do you have the FourCC codec changer tool? If so, you could always change the codec to XVID or something. That might be able to solve the problem. Another fix is to get a media converter. The best one is probably Format Factory, which I use personally. There is another fix to the problem, get a new editor. I like Sony Vegas 9.0 pro and Adobe After Effects. I've heard good things about Adobe Premier as well. If you want any of these, go to youtube and put in something like "Sony Vegas 9.0 free", you should get a couple of videos that tell you how to get the programs for free.
