We are back online after the recent hacking. And there are some big changes.

It looks like the hacking was just a simple defacement of the site, and probably nothing too malicious has occurred. However, the hacker did apparently obtain the database which contained Usernames, email addresses, and md5 hashed passwords. I believe its possible that the hashed passwords can be decrypted, so I recommend that everyone change their passwords. And if you use the same password on other sites, you should change it there too.

I have upgraded all software to the latest versions, and the site has seen a massive overhaul.
The first thing that you may notice is that the video directory is now gone. Unfortunately that mod was not very well maintained and the author provided no support for it, so I thought its best to leave it out. There is a new [video] bb code, so you can now easily post videos in your threads, and you can post your videos in the "Other Videos" forum section.

There will also be some changes to the way videos are submitted to AMV Minis. From now on, DropBox will be the recommended service for sending your video files to us. If you sign up to DropBox through this link (http://db.tt/HzXU1WB6), you can get an extra 250mb of storage space.

I will also be setting some new forum rules, and making several people moderators. If you are interested in being a moderator, or want to nominate someone else to be a moderator, you can post a reply in this thread to let me know.

And now, this would be an excellent time to let me know about any suggestions that you have for the site!

I dunno if the video code has a management system but from my experience you might wanna encapsulate it in a spoiler. Netbooks and low end machines dont like full pages with flashplayer videos especially if theres more than one embed per post.

I think a hacker have simply found a vulnerability in that version of Bulletin board. Thus was randomly searching for such old type of boards and tried to exploit them. Were were chosen because we were unlucky + had big members count.
Hackers main target was password hashes and members email addresses. He will bruteforce them by using a Most common password dictionary. Its a simple textfile size of few GBs. If you need one, I can recommend this one (http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forums/old-general-discussion/8603-=xploitz=-2-master-password-collections.html). A veteran hacker have made it, based on his and partners gathered info. Retrieved passwords will be used to guess members emails. Possibly will be used on other sites, like Ebay, Amazon, PayPal, Facebook, others. Successfully hacked email addresses will be thoroughly searched for more passwords or other sensitive personal data.
But anyways, today is 31 Dec. Havent noticed any thread dedicated for this, so Im saying it here.

Dropbox is cumbersome just because you have to sign up, I dont know how much bandwidth and storage space your host provides for you but it seems simpler to find some upload script and use the server to do the bidding even better if the forum software has options. I can setup my server as an upload host offsite if your interested not exactly sure how well it would perform (I'd have to ask mad for numbers again).

A better setup is a FTP Server. Everyone can use that easily works just like dropbox XD

I'll take a mod position if you/everyone is interested.

I have considered ftp, but there are various reasons that I don't want to go with it.
I don't have a ton of space on my web host, for one.
Next, there would just be a lot of time overhead required for managing it. I would frequently have to go back in and make space by deleting vids that I am sure I dont need anymore, but being careful not to delete other ones. When there are over ~100 entries circulating at a time, that could be cumbersome.

Having it on an external service like dropbox takes all of the management hassles off of my shoulders.

Zarx is referring to when you put it in your public folder and give the person a link.
That way the person downloading doesn't even need to have DropBox installed.

Not quite business as usual yet, but the site is currently not compromised (which is not to say that it cant happen again). I'm just taking a wait and see attitude for now.

This is an experiment, not a complaint - no, really. You see, whenever I go into a forum to bitch about a bug not being fixed, a site not being updated, or an AMV not being out, it gets posted immediately thereafter. I'm completely aware that my comment has nothing to do with making this happen; rather it's a strange twist on Murphy's Law messing with me - as soon as I call something out for not happening, it happens just to spite me.
