The long-awaited live-action version of AMV Minis has finally arrived!
At first, entries were coming in really slowly, and I thought that this might not happen. But then suddenly, the entries just started rushing in and they didn't stop! So we have ended up with an episode that is roughly twice as long as your typical AMV Minis episode. I hope you enjoy.

Now I will once again resume accepting ANIME videos. The next episode of AMV Minis will be the FINAL episode from Season 2. So if you want to submit something, be sure to send it in NOW! I am probably looking to cut off submissions at the end of August.

Pretty good episode actually made me laugh at most of the clips. Hasn't happened in a while.

Live action doesn't usually do it for me, but overall i enjoyed this one. Panda's "raindrops" clip, Lion's Trolo clip, haar's seizure clip, and jinzo's super sonic racing clip were all especially gold to me.

The dwindling rate at which we're getting submissions, and the fact that for maybe out of every 10 submissions there's only 1 REALLY awesome one, would mean if you really wanted Minis episodes to be just as good as the old AMV Hell movies, then you could expect to see a new episode every 6-7 months. We try to filter out bad and below average submissions, but will usually accept ones that're average as long as they're funny or entertaining. So if you want to help the cause, you personally could start submitting some fantastic super awesome videos, or encourage others to do so more often. =3

Some of the videos that got accepted were actually re-dos, you got to watch them once but we had to watch them up to 4 different times (different versions) until they were up to par. Some people started flooding us with submissions, which resulted in a few gems, but overall there was a lot of mediocrity. Then there was someone who decided to use actual footage of them-self. I won't name names but it was painful . . but they were also one of our top submitters' and did give us some good material later on so it evened out. Being a judge is a thankless job, when a Minis episode doesn't live up to expectations we get a lot of heat for it.

I recall suggesting once that we could open up to the YouTube community like what was done in the past in an attempt to gain new members, and people started freaking out because apparently 99% of YouTube AMV creators are talent-less children? Zarx' is too busy with site business for the sort of every day chatter we participate in, but I do believe he should be a little more picky when it comes to submissions.

I see what you're saying, but when the episode is about to be cancelled due to a lack of entries, I'm pretty sure that 20 clips is a lot more than what most were submitting.

For several weeks (months?) we hardly received any submissions, so I was being a bit more lenient than I should have, thinking that we might not even get enough videos for a full episode.
Then you started sending them in. Several weeks went by when I thought "ok, this is cool, we finally have enough videos! I'll finish this episode up next week!", and then a few days later I would check back and there are like 10 new entries I have to go though. When they didn't stop, I finally just had to pull the plug.

Now at that point, certainly I had a much better pool of videos to choose from, and some of the more mediocre ones could have been removed. But at this point many of them had already been accepted, so I wasn't going to go back and reject them.

Also, many of the acceptances come after much back and forth discussion with the creator (which I'm sure you are quite familiar with). Now I'm certainly not saying that bitching and whining is a way to get your videos accepted, but when I do see a creator arguing for his work, I do tend to consider that maybe there is more to it that I might be overlooking, and so sometimes I do end up accepting videos that I would have at first rejected.

A good example of that was the Hulk video. I really don't know why I decided to go with it. I didn't like it from the beginning. But after all the back and forth, the re-editing, and what have you, I finally just decided "eh, well its pretty short, I'll just go with it". And I have seen several people mention really enjoying that particular video so far. So maybe accepting it was a good call after all.

In addition, it can just be really difficult to know what people are going to think of some clips. I personally thought the Super Sonic Racing clip sucked, and I came very close to rejecting it. Turns out it was one of the most loved clips in the whole episode though. Tough decisions.

Which submission of yours are you referring to? Usually if one has potential, that's when the brain storming starts and we try to help someone improve upon the original concept.

It depends on the case, and whether it looks like there is potential to save the video by reworking it. Lots of stuff just gets rejected right away.

I'll finish this episode up next week!", and then a few days later I would check back and there are like 10 new entries I have to go though. When they didn't stop, I finally just had to pull the plug.

Now at that point, certainly I had a much better pool of videos to choose from, and some of the more mediocre ones could have been removed. But at this point many of them had already been accepted, so I wasn't going to go back and reject them.

Also, many of the acceptances come after much back and forth discussion with the creator (which I'm sure you are quite familiar with). Now I'm certainly not saying that bitching and whining is a way to get your videos accepted, but when I do see a creator arguing for his work, I do tend to consider that maybe there is more to it that I might be overlooking, and so sometimes I do end up accepting videos that I would have at first rejected.

A good example of that was the Hulk video. I really don't know why I decided to go with it. I didn't like it from the beginning. But after all the back and forth, the re-editing, and what have you, I finally just decided "eh, well its pretty short, I'll just go with it". And I have seen several people mention really enjoying that particular video so far. So maybe accepting it was a good call after all.

In addition, it can just be really difficult to know what people are going to think of some clips. I personally thought the Super Sonic Racing clip sucked, and I came very close to rejecting it. Turns out it was one of the most loved clips in the whole episode though. Tough decisions.

Fair enough, but I honestly don't see the problem with rejecting mediocre stuff after some better content comes along.

It's quite simple. Several judges expressed that the Scott Pilgrim video was pretty awesome despite the length. That's it.
And you'll note I did end up using the original version that you submitted anyways (i think).

I actually liked the Super Sonic Racing one. I just thought it was a bit too long. As for your Just Dance clip, I simply thought it was a bit too simplistic. And to be fair, it's not like I was trying to single you out. I was pretty harsh towards myself as well.
