Been awhile since I’ve done this…

1: Not bad. Everything flows abnormally nicely for something that edited so the synergy here is better than what amv makers get on average. I say a clearly above average entry.

2: I like this and it totally has nothing to do with me liking wrestling…I think. The decent editing job helps too. I was amused at the idea of hercule being sheamus.

3: I guess I can see why you did that, that shot of light’s faces was something to work with to make a AoT joke. Afraid I didn’t get much out of it beyond that though.

4: Another good one. The way you accomadated synching the lyrics to the visuals is an admirable effort and the energy is great for that intro. Don’t like
azumanga diaoh at all,, but that does Animaniacs some justice. Only negative I see is aspect ratio was erratic for no reason.

5: And here I thought there was a precedent for not having to censor Efren Lied? Sorry, but I don’t think I got the reference here.

6: 9…9…9? Oh **** yes! You win sir…or madam…most likely sir. Okay okay. I’m not that easy to please, but it’s well done. Good Job. Why wasn't this entry #9?

7: Short, sweet, and to the point. Can’t complain here though I’m not sure the entry is that inspired.

8: Felt you had a solid idea going here, but the editing just wasn’t there and was too jarring.

9: I like it. For an audio choice that may be likely to draw groans, think this was solid enough to avoid such scrutiny. Well done, but you may want to work on that ghosting issue at 4:24.

11: Crap. I know I heard this song leaving adult swim on while multi-tasking, but I never actually watched the show so I’m afraid I have to give the same song and dance as 10, but for what it’s worth, the editing was solid to me.

Righty then, let's see what we got.

1. Looking good. Granted, I don't know if you could've used something else instead of the artwork for the evil forces, but I guess it's not too distracting.

2. Gets the blood pumping. Nicely done.

3. It knew it didn't have much going for, so it cut itself off appropriately. Still, an idea not worth a damn.

4. The lip sync, mate. Jesus Christ, get to work on it. Rest works out fine.

5. Nooo, just because Get Smart has sliding doors in its intro and Elfen Lied has a scene involving sliding doors doesn't mean they fit. Back to school.

6. I don't get what it's referencing, but it's alright.

7. I guess you couldn't have done much with this.

8. I rather have one full, working clip that bits and pieces of ideas that are still in the concept stage. This is something you should've done BEFORE even deciding on submitting a clip. Oh wait, it's supposed to be a complete joke? Bwahahahaha, now that's funny. Poor bastard.

9. *tsk tsk* No points for originality. Not to mention the audio cut at the end. A subpar job.

11. I don't like this one, it's just leaves a good clip concept behind and goes off on a limb to another topic in hopes that it'll hit some sense of humor along the way. It's like something out of Adult Swi- ooooooooohhhhhhhh. Well, I guess you got that part right. It would've been at least somewhat funny if you had kept the actors' names stuck to their bodies.

Concept is tangentially related. I guess you're really proud of pointing out such a magnificent, brilliant (see what I did there? It matches with the anime's title! Splendid!) observation about the helicopter girl's movements being similar to those of a real chopper. Bloody hell...

13. Scene cuts all over the goddamn place in order to try to keep up with the pace of the song. No sense of timing, eh? Subpar job.

14. Heh.

Overall, it's a step backwards. Don't go to sleep on me, lads. Keep the pace up! Only two to go!

Only do reviews myself once in a blue moon, but whatever.

1. Fit pretty well, but that's about it. I would've preferred better audio quality, but considering the age of the source....

Also, as mil mentioned, the "evil forces" needed more than just still images to work well.

2. I'm a wrestling fan, and I didn't really like this clip. Then again I hate the Dragon Ball series so....

At least it fit decently overall. Could've been better...but you put more than the "bare minimum" effort in, so good job on that.

3. "kinda-sorta-almost fits" does not a good joke make. Zarx really needs a "more than bare minimum" rule or something to weed out **** like this.

4. Fits, and was kinda funny. Kinda. Not that great, but at least it has SOME humor. Might've been funnier if A. Azumanga wasn't so over-used and B. I actually liked the Animaniacs.

5. It wasn't until someone else mentioned it until I understood what the joke was supposed to be....and boy, what a **** joke. "there's doors in this source, and doors in this one too!" Maybe I would've found it funnier if I were familiar with the audio source....but I highly doubt it.

6. Awesome AMV, but we're not going for the "awesome" factor in AMV Hell. The clips are meant to be funny, and there was no joke whatsoever. Awesome, well-edited, but not funny.

7. This is basically the same as 4, except I don't necessarily hate the audio source. Not a huge Godzilla fan, but not exactly a "hater", either. The joke does fit a bit better IMO, though.

8. This could've been a good clip....until you ****ed it up by changing your mind......3 TIMES.

9. I know who did this, and basically already told him how I feel about it, so I won't really go into detail on this one. Basically another "awesome, but not funny" clip. Unfortunately suffers from "done-before syndrome" as well...

1. She-Ra: I didn't mind this one, but I never saw She-Ra, so I cant really compare it to well. Not bad

2. WWE Royal Rumble 2013: Also pretty decent clip. Can't say I care for wrestling, but well timed and good source.

3. Attack on Titan: It's. Been. Done. I even had a post about this in the first thread

8. Captain Planet/Darkwing Duck/Ghostbusters/Inspector Gadget: Same with this one. Too much scene changing and not much of a joke

10. Survivor: Not good. Just putting music over it was a bit lazy really

Don't know if this is it, but when the creator showed me a "preview" of the work-in-progress it had the actual rangers on the right side of the screen.

Well....I guess "vitally important" isn't actually accurate, but I do still think it's more than "obligatory". Then again it does sound enough like "helicopter" that the clip likely would've worked fine without the subs. Especially with the word said two more times in slow-mo.

2. I love wrestling and all, though I'm not sure if I can count a WWE PPV promo since its more of a commercial than an intro.
3. Nah, it fits but it just doesn't meld.
4. As the creator, I apologize if some of the quality wasn't great. Had some interlacing problems due to my inadequacy with Handbrake. Nevertheless, I'm very proud of this one as I've been wanting to this ever since AMV Hell 6.
5. It is a good work, though not my vote for winner.
6. Wow, an intro for an obscure DS title, and I know of it because I bought that game! Kudos!
7. Could be better as I think it's kind of blasphemous to use Godzilla for another Kaiju, but that's me.

Well I'll have to disagree on that, the awesome factor has be done before in AMV Hell on the Lucky Star Intro Parody of Death Note and the only thing that was funny was it being Lucky Star, other then that is was 100% awesome. Well that just me, not saying you right or anything.

Also is does have a joke, but sadly you need to know the show & game to get it. One of its jokes is the "Over 1,500 Victims" part from the DS game intro, if you say 2 people die pre-episode in Detective Conan then that's 1520 victims for just 760 episodes and sometimes more then 3-5 people die in one episode.

The biggest part that made this video was the new intro Dynamite that's has a big red 9 on a big door.

02 – RRZ – Good effort. A couple of things are missing however:

A countdown/clock. The speaker mentions one, so we should see it. What is that symbol in the bottom-right corner supposed to be anyway? Was that in the original footage?

The ending felt empty without it.

04 – Animéniacs – A very good idea sadly let down by a few shortcomings in the editing department.
That lip-syncing at the start is way off. The “just sit back and relax” bit could have been timed a little better. As you note yourself- that’s some crazy interlacing going on, Moon.
It’s a shame these things weren’t fixed during the 4 week editing period. An honourable effort.

06 – Nein! Nein! Nein! – I’ve played/read 999, I’m a fan, but I had to watch this entry twice before getting the reference. It’s not like the game is easily recognised by its intro.
I’m not familiar with the Conan franchise so maybe there’s a synergy here that I’m missing, but I didn’t get anything out of this in terms of entertainment. Nice enough editing job, but a forgettable entry.


Why wasn't this entry #9? Silly N.P.C.C., if you were familiar with the story of 999 or remembered it well enough- you would know the significance of the number 6 and how it fits with this entry rather brilliantly.

07 – Gawdzilla – Watch out for that awkward loop on the flames at 3:49.

08 – Captain Darkwing-Buster-Gadget – Black borders much? The repeated sequence for “Earth!” and “Fire!” was really bad. “Wind”, “water” and “heart” were out of sync. The cut to DBZ was abrupt both in the visuals and the audio, same for Yuyu and Ghostbusters. The Inspector Gadget audio should have ended at 4:14.
This was almost a good concept, but the execution was severely lacking.

09 – Puella Rangers – Not a bad idea, but once again the execution was off. The text listing the cast was really dull and didn’t stand out, and the images used to show the girls surely could have been better- I mean- why have the split screen if they’re in their magical girl state on both sides of the border? They should have been in their ordinary uniforms/clothing on the left and meguka gear on the right:

When the pace of the music picks up at 4:39- the pace of the video should have picked up too, it needed some fast cuts/ action sequences. The ending was abrupt and had no punchline.

12 – C*R*A*P – No synergy. No clever observation. Dumb.

14 – Bitch – Alright, you got me, I laughed. A few problems however:

She says “Jem’s gone”, then the camera zooms out. Why include the zoom? You should have held the still frame- or better yet- removed the shot entirely.
Why does Fuji have to sign in before hearing the hallelujah? Surely he would hear it the moment the front page loaded. Why are members the only ones allowed in on the celebration? That’s discrimination. AMVHF would never discriminate…
Couldn’t you have made him show some kind of distinct emotion at the news? What is he feeling? Is he happy or sad? The shot is too brief.
Why isn’t the final shot widescreen? Why border it with the monitor when the previous shot of the webpage wasn’t?

Why is the AMV Hell logo all we see? That’s boring. Where was the famous anti-Jem logo? Why couldn’t we have seen a list of new topics on the front page like: “FINALYL GEM IZ GONE!”, “JEM RIP”, “LONG LIVE TEH MISFITS”, “NO MOAR J3M!! W00t111!!!11!” and “N.P.C.C. needs a new waifu”? Little things like this could have added a lot.


Not a bad job overall, peeps. I’m happy to see that this isn’t another one-horse race of a round and I won’t be a six-time champion before the new year.

The subtitles are necessary in this instance, though, because it's vital to get across that Sylphy is perceived to be "airheaded" - and so zany, quirky, happy-go-lucky, good-natured, and essentially untroubled - before the reveal that everyone around her is misconstruing her light-hearted ditziness and that it's actually the repressed cry of a broken woman who can't escape the painful memories of a bloody past and that no-one around understands her.
