A Prelude To The Mad House: Had a lot of good gems, could have done without the random 'Mad House' segments, kind of broke up the flow. Nice quality clips though
Abaddon by MarkSoupial: Good editing techniques and quality. Laughed at quite a lot of the clips, but ended a bit abruptly, wanted to see more
Amv Compilation X: Could have used less Lucky Star, some of the clips can work with a lot of other animes. Only found a few funny
AMV ****ery: That Jojo clip. Best. Laughed at a few of the others too. Lipsync isn't as great as some of the others, but not super bad
AMV_24-7: Shorter than most with the clips, but that actually worked really well, as didn't overstay their welcome. All funny/worked great for me
AMVHades-Malcolm: Wasn't keen on the transitions. Some clips overstay and only laughed at a few (relies on the punchlines from cartoons too much too)
AMVRIP: Pretty average compared to previous ones. Only a few were stand out enough (Death Parade one in particular). Also too much Death Note
AMVsickness: Not the best quality clips (not sure if encoding issues or something else), also watermarks. Not as impacting or funny as previous ones (especially the similar clip ones). Overall pretty meh (too much Disturbed, despite the name of the collection)
Crack: After all the ones with intros, suddenly being thrown in was a bit ugh. Watermarks. Lipsync is not good. Wasn't that funny and needed more source diversity. Meh
Fear&AMVs: Same intro problem. Lipflap abounds (as in talking when shouldn't) and lipsync is off. Clips are meh for laughs and slow when should be fast etc

ain't this something voting started the day i finished legacy of pain **** eater 2 go figure i'm sure i won't win this but just being in this contest is great exposure i know mine was really one of the lower quality ones but i'm still pretty new at this it's not bad in that regard plus i limited myself by only sticking to one series so you really got to know the series to get the jokes and looking back on it i don't really like the opening i chose **** eater 2 is much better my favorites out of the bunch was amv 24/7 and the mad house one hard to really pick between the two i voted but not sure it got through

Yeah, never got around to an intro or perfecting the lipsyncs. I was busy attempting to move overseas. I also knew about audio issues that I never got to fix. I still feel I gave a decent set.

Yeah, the credits and timing got smushed down in the reformat. That's what I get when you try to squeeze a 600mb AVI into a 54mb mp4. Either way, it doesn't seem to be in any shape to get into the next round anyway.

I ended up voting for about half of your guys' entries. I'm not at all nitpicky for video quality, and I'm a sucker for well-placed music, so I'm thinking well done for the lot of ya.

Yeah I knew mine wouldn't be the greatest, especially when you compare it to some of the others. I did the best I could at the time and I'll always have room to improve.

Overall I did see time and effort put into these videos and some were good, and some were bad, and some gave me a headache.

This is a compilation done right. It was especially nice seeing English subs for those that don't speak French. It was pretty amazing what you did with your theme. My only 2 major(ish) complaints would be the lack of credits, and one of the subtitled clips (a Trigun one) had French subs.

2. A Prelude To The Mad House
Overall pretty decent. That last clip overstayed it's welcome by quite a bit, though. Didn't really enjoy the opening bit that much, but it certainly could've been a lot worse. Didn't really feel that self-promotion bit at the end, either, but the end credits themselves fit pretty well.

3. Abaddon by MarkSoupial
Took me almost half the video to realize there was a transition at all. It's nice that it's not super-distracting from the main content, but it didn't work well with transitioning the clips, which is pretty much the sole job of a transition in the first place. As for the clips themselves....they were alright. Nothing real fantastic, but at least I didn't throw up. Not really sure what you were going for with the opening and ending.

Well.......you tried? I feel like you had some good ideas here, but really sloppy execution. Perhaps it would be better if you found someone who could do the editing for you?

Humor obviously isn't your thing, Shui. Rather than make anything for Hellspawn, perhaps you should just focus on these art projects of yours? You'll find much more success doing what you're actually capable of doing.

Also, I have to ask....and be perfectly honest with your answer: does "untitled project" actually have some hidden meaning, or was that legit you just being a lazy ****er?

I'll admit I was pretty tired when I got to this point....but this gave me no reason to wake back up. Poor compilation.




Overall, I'm disappointed how few actually put forth good effort into an opening and ending. Too many of you just outright skipped them.

Out of 21 compilations I only found 4 that were worth throwing a vote at. Although to be fair, I was actually expecting a LOT worse than this, so I guess that's still an accomplishment of sorts?

Yeah, that really threw me off at first but I suppose it made sense given it was actually in English with a heavy French accent. Overall this entry surprised me in a good way and was also one of the few I liked.

I think we all struggled a lot with this challenge. Because we were trying to emulate a lot of factors that just aren't easy to build into. It's simply easier to take a large number of AMVs reduce them into a solid "AMV hell". It's easier to trim fat then to build structure. So I'm going to try and give a little friendly perspective.

Collectively we struggled with the intros and endings. And I think this is because the intros and endings of AMV hells have been amazing and memorable. So there is a perception that intros and endings are essential to the format. But I was a little disappointed that some people had the intro/credits be a huge chunk of run-time. It's nice having a full length AMV as the intro/credits after a long set of clips, but the intro/credits should not be the main attraction of what is a variety clip show.

Pacing was something that was awkward as well in a lot of entries. I have to admit I think the biggest flaw with the AMV 24-7 was the restriction of 7 seconds. I could see the flow improving by mixing up the lengths, simply because some felt drawn out and a few felt short. This also relates to how transitions were designed. A Prelude To The Mad House had something I just wasn't expecting, transitions as content instead of purely resets. Personally I found it jarring, but I can understand the motivation behind them. And I think the transition choice in Abaddon were just a little to fast paced and didn't give the proper reset message. I actually think the way the transition worked I instinctively blinked during them. I ended up confused thinking two amvs were connected somehow on multiple occasions. I just wasn't seeing the transitions as full breaks between clips. Another thing that is subtle is just being careful about putting a set of short or long AMVs together. It's nice to stagger very short and longer ones and vice versa, but this is flexible.

Variety was unsurprisingly an issue. Amv Compilation X suffered mainly from having too much Lucky star overall. I think a collaborator would have greatly improved it just with a few AMVs to break up the lucky star. Actually if Blackbox and AMV Compilation X were strategically combined it would make for a much better set without actually needing more content. Sometimes variety just had to do with arrangement. It's just not ideal to place two AMVs next to each other when they have the same source material. Crack was pretty bad about this and it's just changing clips a little around so things don't get confusing or monotonous.

Now humor. Well being funny is hard. I actually sacrificed comedy in order to balance out variety and pacing issue I had. Plus Zaxrax actually has the benefit of not being heartbroken if X clip doesn't makes it into the final product, so he can just veto the unsuccessful ones.

Your*[come on bruh] opening overstayed it's welcome by quite a large margin, and quite a bit of the text throughout ended up off-screen.
As I said before, problems with compression. Fixed a number of it and fixed a couple of clips in a second edition I finished shortly after this one was handed in. The intro was indeed a lot longer but I was planning on a project that was a lot longer as well. Because of time constraints I had to scrap almost half of my ideas. But yeah the intro and credits could've been a lot shorter.


Overall I didn't enjoy this compilation, but I did love seeing that Sky Crawlers/Ace Combat clip (even if there was no humor in it).
I knew you would love it bb.

Who said I was going for humor? And well in all honesty I did employ humor in 7 of my 8 clips. They probably fell flat for a number of reasons:
- some in-humor
- jarring transitions and the overall idea of this whole project.
- and the fact that this was eventually rushed in a couple of days.



Rather than make anything for Hellspawn, perhaps you should just focus on these art projects of yours? You'll find much more success doing what you're actually capable of doing.
Oh I'm not planning on making a non-career out of these things as a couple of people around here liked to do. As for Hellspawn, I'm sure I can whip up some stuff those guys'd find humorous.

It was a well thought out and consciously made decision.
Rule #1 of artsy 2deep4u etiquette: If you make anything just don't title it. Works for LP's, paintings, sculptures, performance art, anything.
But in all honesty I just wanted something to put some variety in a sea of pretentiously titled(gee what irony huh?) compilations with the phrase AMV in it.

I've managed to learn several important lessons from mistakes in my past. Abridged Nanoha taught me "don't force jokes that aren't there", while that second AMV I mentioned earlier taught me "Don't half-ass ****. Seriously, why even bother if you're gonna half-ass ****?". Unlimited AMV Works: If clips were shorter and no watermarks could be decent
Yeah, sorry about the water mark. I had to download the entire Anime as a Raw video just to get a version without hard subs, but had a tiny watermark in the corner. I tried to remove it but It just made it look worse. So I decided I would make sure every frame of video at least had that watermark instead of removing it and making it look bad by accident. Still, thank you for the review.

Thanks. I tried to make sure every lip flap was accurate. Still to be honest It wasn't as good as I wanted. I wanted to add one more clip before the credits. It would of complimented the opening, Kirito taking off the Nervgear and saying (In Light Yagami's voice) "Man, these covers are so misleading," but I lost my Internet 10 days before it was due and that was when I was working on the opening and closing scenes. I couldn't get the raw or dubbed episode of Sword Art Online I needed without murdering my Celular Internet usage, The one I had contained hard subs on it.

Hehe, well AMV Hell 3 was the first ever AMV compilation I ever saw. Before then I had only ever seen full song AMVs. The Idea of using simple audio clips or snippets of songs was new to me. So yeah, Zarx Inspired me to make Videos like this. Of Course I know AMV Hell was made by more than Zarx, but the original AMV Hell was made by them. That is the reason for the tribute.

[Woy] Petites Vidéomations – uncharted: The overall quality of the product is outstanding. It starts off on the wrong foot with me due to having to read jokes while the visuals are on screen, but that doesn’t encompass the entire thing, so relatively minor gripe. The standout for me was the longest yard/fullmettal panic clip, but I wasn’t feeling decision to follow that up with another comedy sports joke right after. Overall, it’s good. At the same time, you have to accept that the language barriers are a factor in the enjoyment of this. Seeing the effort put into it should be universal all the same.

Abaddon by MarkSoupial: It has a good flow to it with nothing over staying its welcome regardless of whether they were hits, or misses. The eva one at 2:55 is the personal standout for me.The use of light and lelouche in that context got a laugh out of me. Overall, it’s okay, but with its length you probably needed more diversity in the anime used. There were too many reuses of sources in close proximity.

Okay, okay…I should probably give you more of a shot than this. You do know this show gave me suicidal thoughts though, right?! Since this isn’t Lucky Star themed, I have to make note of how jaded you can make the viewer when most of the skits come from the same anime source. I know you like it, (and god knows why) but ****ty star doesn’t exactly take me as a series that’s versatile enough to use like that. Frozen clip got a cringe out of me, but then the metal gear gag brought me back to amusement. I think you did an okay job taken you’ve improved into account. Last, I am shocked to see your waifu get no play here.

Amv ****ery: Some uninspired ideas here (like KLK behind gag), and somewhat inspired. I assume the DBZ clip had original audio from you, but it’s due to hearing the distortion going on. The personal standout here I feel is the space dandy/wacky races skit. Quality is consistent, and nothing offends, but honestly, I found the opening joke more entertaining than a good portion of this…

Now that that’s out of the way – I like the presentation here. Simple, but I’m assuming **** became more complicated than it may appear during editing. Never was much of a fan of 24 I should admit, but alright. This one is pretty hit or miss throughout, but it edges out in hits. Jem one is actually not my favorite. I’m a sucker for the “RKO out of nowhere” gags…Overall; it’s nice with great presentation.

AMVHades-Malcolm: From a quality/presentation standpoint, everything seems alright. The problems come in when a joke dragged out (apples with death) Shoe horning in scenes, (mysterious girlfriend x with futurama), and general overuse of death note. Needed more diversity and perhaps better thought out execution. Nothing here really stood out for me.

AMVRIP: Quality stays consistent with presentation – even if I’m not that big on the intro. I would say the standout here is dexter’s laboratory with marai nikki, though sporadic nature of how the scenes were edited were kinda jarring. Kinda cringe at the death note with rhinna clips Ending amv was alright, and overall, I say this was decent to above average.

AMVsickness: Quality is all over the damn place with lack of audio balance. The first clip gets amusement out of me, and from there I remain jaded throughout the rest of it. I just don’t find it very good overall to be honest.

Fear&AMVs: The quality is pretty consistent aside from the drastic audio dip at 50 seconds in. Most jokes are pretty uninspired and don’t click in a way in which /I feel symmetry, or humor. This is kind of phoning it in with the ideas in general. Nothing stands out as a result.

Crack: Now, if I was an asshole, I’d inquire as to whether the title alludes to what you were on while you edited this…For instance: People who use crack may experience a need to use attack on titan, thinking that it’s okay to repeat the use of that anime in close proximity, badly synched dragon ball z clips, shivering, night terrors, gay for pay, and that it’s a good idea to use the half frame of amv hell’s transition tv as a transition source as you obviously couldn’t bother to make your own generic static image, or look the **** up and download off youtube. Again, I won’t say all that because I am totally not an asshole.

jtheadeptrogue compilation: I’m going to guess fan service was supposed to carry this one, right? Not going to work among desensitized bastards like us. The quality is alright despite the funimation watermark in the PSG clip, but overall, this just blows, and doesn’t give me much of a feeling that you tried to make something worthwhile. Bad

Kaptain K Rool's Crazy Crew: What dark hole of youtube did you crawl out from? This is just horrific, and you should be ashamed of yourself if this is the best you could do with the time allotted. This is like an insult honestly. You didn’t even bother with a transition which leads me to question whether or not you gave a ****.

Unlimited AMV Works: I find the phoenix wright clip to be the stand out here, but it drags a bit. Besides that, I think it was a good effort for as long as this one lasted. Last, nice job sucking dick like a pro, G!

Untitled Project: Thought you had a nice presentation going, but wasn’t a fan of the transitions. I don’t know – having to stop the video to read that kinda halted the momentum, but I figured it had to factor into the suggestions to pay attention? Nothing was bad, but on the other hand no clip particularly caught my eye here. Found the intro sequence memorable however. Maybe don’t blatantly go for deep things next time?

Legacy Of Pain **** Eater: I want to at least give you props for trying to be something different, but this gives me the impression that you weren’t nearly seasoned enough as an editor to be attempting to go against the grain to this extent, and if you’re, you would know that this was not going to fly when given to the masses. There is a reason the few video game clips that have made into hell have been so short, and these dragging on like that really puts that reason into perspective. It’s damn near impossible to get any semblance of symmetry established here. Every second of this feels so forced. Well, aside from the guy who’s supposed to be karl gesturing to the body at 6:42.

Operation_ AMV mind****: Dude, don’t even bother touching ponies. Anthology has that **** on lock, and they are pretty hit and miss themselves. While you kept missing, The quality and presentation is subpar, and the constant deviation with video games and everything else doesn’t help. Nothing is working here, and it never once starts to gain momentum for me. No standouts.

PinkElephantParade: Quality is at least stable throughout this one. The Mirai Nikki clip goes on way too long and looks like little to no attempt at synching was going on the justify such length. From there, everything else gets met with general apathy as I see nothing memorable going on here. Well, the ending amv was entertaining. ..

Yelrah's AMV Complete: Why does this one feel like it just…ends? Everything seems solid from a technical standpoint though I find a simple static transition kinda “played out as this point. As for it’s entertainment value, sorry to say I found nothing beyond the eva boom skit as that memorable. Make note that the project as a whole is far from bad in my opinion all things considered. It just seems to be missing something more.

ShortStack-amvh: From a quality/presentation standpoint - The clips seem alright, but your transition is like a half frame which is too quick to spot. Hmmm…considering I saw the flash animation, the ignorance is bliss clip does not get much out of me. Honestly, that about sums ups the rest of this. For something so short, I would expect more to be brought to the table. Also, you’re missing credits dude…

TheBlackBox: Kind of uninspired transition here. It was movie maker like if I was thinking from the top of my head…This is even with all the static transitions present. Nothing is standing out here, but the quality of clips doesn’t suck, which is sad that I have to bring that up for this thing constantly as a primary plus….I guess you tried with the pokemon gag, but it didn’t click for me.


In hindsight, I’m surprised we even got a handful of somewhat decent entries. Still, what the hell at some of you thinking some of this was going to cut it? Even with the “good” entries a good portion of clips reek of “put this with this because it goes together…somewhat.”

I have a college test int 9 hours..my gut is ****ed (stress.) and my dad is dead (died late june and why I am so ****ing stressed.) and yet I have to watch this and give my opinion cos otherwise I am freaking the **** out and not feeling well so I need to do something to take my mind off things so my stomach settles and I can sleep.

First one, the French AMV is felt just like Ru.Comix, nice production yet zero like or understanding of the whole project.

Madhouse alot of it made me go shake my head and go "What?", Three clips made me enjoy them Prince of Tennis "you ****ed up" turns out Haars only clip and why it would hit me, the Perfect blue fish one was nice-ish, and the last Black Lagoon Rogue
Warrior clip was nice. Thankfully while it was 95% NPCC he did not do Jem....as far as I know.

Jinzo's AMV started ok then it said "Jinzo's AMV" and I "oh right.....well give it a shot I am warmed by the start." nope an absolute ****ing nose dive.....

AMV ****ery was mostly terrible with a few clips close to being something and the Space Dandy sweat clip being the best one out of it with Whacky races second best.

AMV 24-7 might be the most disappointing one so far (also it is so far the best) but disappointing as two thirds are pretty bad yet with one third being good. Disappointing as its a mix of Loli and Chaz which usually have a good track record for making clips I like.... so mostly disappointing yet so far also the best......

AMV Hades was sorta ok on the first clip nose dived for most of it picked up a bit on sum but just crashed eventually. It tried and some was close to ok.

AMVRip was mostly not good, the only one that really lifted me up was the Kanno..........I forgot what that anime is call.................. the Reel Big Fish: Don't start a band one......which was sorta good...then it stopped and I was disappointed. Also realised Haar was part of this one as well when he finally got to use his violence jack slashing and whacking clip in something.

AMVSickness umm......what resolution was most of this? either my net died for streaming or this was a low resolution video.. also nothing chimed with me..... the worst so far in humor and quality (which everything so far at least had quality)

The “Toyetic” clip wasn’t funny during the video game challenge, and it still isn’t funny here.
The “war never changes” clip was particularly bad. You seem to be a fan of Doug Walker and his uncharismatic buddies, so try to recall something his parody of Casper once said- “Timing”.
I hate being reminded of the existence of the Nostalgia Critic and his obnoxious associates, so there was a lot for me to despise in this compilation.

Admittedly- the Sailor Moon “F U bitch” clip at 3:31 was just that right level of so bad-it’s good, I got a guilty laugh out of it.

Lucky Star/ABC - Playing some random song over a video of characters dancing is usually frowned upon around these parts, playing some random song over a video of Lucky Star characters dancing however is a cardinal sin.
You’re not being clever with that final clip. It’s insulting and waste of time.

Hmm...It's weird regarding gunslinger girl, as that was a dvd rip, and the first season is in full screen. As for the quality, I now want to go back and check how it originally looked to see if I ****ed that encode up or not. I recall being dissappointed as I consider the first season beautifully animated.

The car disappearing is in the original animation. It just pops off the screen in the show. Just like the little kid disappears in the next shot.

Yeah, I'm going to be honest Blender isn't the easiest to pick up as video editing software. The fact I found reliable settings for creating a .mp4 file was amazing, but i should have paid more attention to technical stuff. And now everyone is going to look at me like I'm crazy for using Blender.

I'll likely do a few clips here and there, but I was aiming a little high for my first time doing AMVs. It has been a few years since I did video editing.

Transition was WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too distracting. And do we really need to be constantly reminded what we're watching? No, no we don't. Especially when the clips are so poor. All those Pokemon clips overstayed their welcome. Not just as a running joke, but as individual clips as well. It's obvious you barely put any effort into this.



Yeah the transitioning was the hardest part for me. I wasn't sure what to do so I went simple. And yeah the pokemon clips were the thing that worried me the most, I remembered a running gag from the AMV Hell 2 and I decided to try it. But since the pokemon ones took up too much time it worked against me. And yes I agree with the constant reminder of the title. It was unnecessary.

I would definitely disagree with me putting in no effort. This project proved pretty difficult for me and I took a lot of time making these clips. But yes I can see why you would think that after watching all the other ones. As I said I'm a noob so it probably looked like a kid handing in a crayon drawing while others are handing in Mona Lisas and Sculptures. But I did put effort into this project.

I realized later on that the whole point of compilations was supposed to be like a tiny movie, having a beginning and end. I didn't think about that while making it.

The "Your Lie in April" clip, was actually something I thought about a while ago. I first heard this song recently and for some reason I thought of "Your Lie in April". So I started to put it together and it looked really good to me! Plus the piano and violin in the song helped a bit.

Thank you to all for taking a look at my video and for taking some time to give it your thoughts and critique. I am going to do some more with this new knowledge and it will improve. I can guarantee that.

That was ****ing outstanding from an artistic standpoint, even if it's not that funny. Please, give that one a special look in prelude, as I felt it deserves it. No, I'm not trying to cheap plug. It would appear I'm that good with microsoft paint either I hadn't noticed that error with hair and eye brow.

No we won't be doing this again and I'm sorry putting my self pity up on amvhell again, It was very stupid and childish - me in a nut shell.

I didn't argue with Dark because he was telling the truth like you're telling the truth,I probably should look in to a different hobby,But I enjoy making amvs, So I think I'm going to stick at it, I might get better. Not as good as you but better.

I've learn't a couple of things from this experience, which are lessons I should have learned from past experiences.

Yeah, you definitely have a point there. I think the concept could work; maybe with more reaction shots of Light, and/or making the whole thing shorter. I actually made that clip before the contest was announced, so it was not designed to be in a compilation. Plus, the video editor I use (Kdenlive) has been buggy as hell for years, due to an insufficient number of programmers. So it took hours of messing with the constantly crashing or otherwise acting weird editor to produce the clip, which clouded my judgment to some extent.

However, your test is an excellent idea! After all, the heart of both an AMV and an AMVHell is the interplay between visuals and sound. Thank you very much for your constructive criticism.

Sometimes simplicity is the better route to go. The image as-is fits the idea well enough, so it really didn't need much. I did make a custom texture for the fill on the text though. Might be hard to pick up at first glance. I suppose I could have put in extra work and made a gif, but there are others here that do that far better than I.

I did have the thought to make an image with a more visible period display, but I thought it best to save everyone that horror.

Thank you very much, I put a great deal of effort into making them detailed. I spent the better part of a week considering how they should be formatted, making them, and then checking for accuracy. Although, apparently this was not enough, as there is an error that I only noticed after submission.

The AMV Hell 2015 Comedy AMV Contest only had 40 votes and remember that Zarx said that one was actually a bit of an experiment to find out how much this stuff was actually dependent upon YouTube. There were passwords on the videos only because I was not available at the time Zarx made this thread and I removed them as soon as I was available that day so that shouldn't have been much of an issue.

Personally I didn't know you could put passwords on videos on vimeo, So I learned something new and I noticed the passwords were removed just didn't know when it happened.

I know Zarxs posted a video saying that voting had begone, I watched it was pretty good.
