Ok, this is rather embarrassing.

I had a hard drive failure last night and ended up losing all of the amv minis entries, among other things.
It seems that well over 3/4 of the videos have expired from the sites they were uploaded on, meaning I can't re-download them.

This has really just been putting a lot of stress on me lately, and this was the final straw. Sorry guys, but AMV Minis is over.
You can just submit your vids to AMV Hell 6 instead, if/when it becomes announced.

Besides, the main Hell series was starting to suffer from Sequelitis. Also, it seemed like the Minis series was being slightly too ambitious. This project being an indication of that.

Also ya cant use the platters are all scratched excuse anymore since most hard drives have G-sensors now and lock the heads at their home position in a free fall only way you could pull that off is if beat the **** out of it with a hammer XD

Solving this would require me going through everything and downloading all the vids AGAIN, then trying to contact the people who's videos i cant get, and hoping that they get the message and still have their videos, and that they reply to me in a reasonable time.

Its just such a hassle. I'm tired of it.:mad:

2 reasons a hard disk dies is either mechanical or logical both are replaceable, mechanical problems usually involves a platter swap out from another model thats the same and is only good to obtain the data back. Cause once the seal is broken outside a clean room the air is no longer particle free and will eventually scratch the **** out of the platters over time it just depends on the quality of the air which would determine its life span.

I have an idea. Forgive me if I missed someone else suggest this... But why doesn't one of us start a collection for a new external USB2 HDD. Something in the 2 tB range. I'd be glad to put 5 or 10 dollars towards that. Then, we create a mailing list, everyone who had approved submissions could mail the drive around, putting their material on it. We could absorb the cost and much of the work as a community.

I had a drive start dying on me once - I could get it to mount in Linux only, and even then it was coming up read-only. First thing I did was run out, buy a drive, and start copying everything I could. As a result, I lost a handful of small files out of thousands. Drive kicked the bucket after that and never mounted again.

You just lost untold hours of yours and everyone else's work. A 2TB drive costs what - $70?

Feel free to disregard what I'm going to say. But here it is.
The hells are not a responsibility of Zar rax attacks. It is his hobby and gift to us should he grace them upon us. If something of this nature did/has/does occur it is within his every right and parameters to scrap the project with his discretion. Since he is not paid except with our respect does it fall into him having to do them. At this point us forum members are sounding like whiny children informed that we don't get a present for our birthday. If we get a mini then happy day, if not we should carry on. Sure disappoint shall and can occur but do not let it fall to bashing. That's the quickest way on the ban train. Instead we should be thankful for the hells we do have.

I must admit I agree with Gut, it's not a right attitude to defend someone's failure. Of course you can say "huh bro, it's not a big deal" but don't try to justify it, one should always take responsibility for what he has done, no matter what his status is. Minis are not only Zarx's work, but many other people's (I'm not one of them though).

What I'm saying is we have to remember at the very least that these are a pass time for Zar rax attacks, if he is up to doing them he will do them. If he doesn't want to he won't. Notice as to things like the delays being "TF2 updated" and "I just got a 3ds". Life "mainly" should be about having fun. So once it becomes a hassle to do them and Zar rax attacks can adopt an attitude of not caring about some peoples disappointment it is within his realm of possibilities to just scrap whatever has/had been done and make the claim he had previously in his joke of "it's too much hassle, I'm fed up, I'm not doing it anymore" Many people were suggesting "fixes" for how to recover the process (in the assumption that this wasn't a joke) and those may be well and dandy but under no circumstances would he be required to take any action if he was just too frustrated.
Now others may not like this attitude or perspective/new outlook of his (in this hypothetical situation) but tough cookies. They are (at the very best) only slightly viewing the situation from his eyes.
