There were a lot of other clips that look decently well done.
But I'm unfamiliar with a lot of the sources.
So if the jokes weren't obvious, then even if they were good, that's why they aren't included in my list.

I thought that it started out very strongly (I liked the Bleach video in spite of the fact that I didn't get the joke) and that the quality of videos was good, but not fantastic, overall The only clips that I disliked were the School Day's one (it wasn't well synched, and had no punch) and the "Gold" one (too little movement.....).

Nice to see Pani Poni Dash reappear.

Edit: Oh, now that I've looked at the credits again the "Gold" one was with Umineko. That explains part of the dislike. I despise that show...

Apparently things don't have to be funny or have decent audio to get in this series. Judges, fricken look at the quality of the videos instead of just the joke, the smallest fallie turns an entire video to crap, at least ask the artist to fix some problems a video has instead of releasing average to bad videos like this one. There seems to be a lack of universal jokes which is pretty sad to see a series take steps back because of that.

Universal jokes meaning ones that are clear from the videos without needing background information on both the shows and the audio sources. Not including ones that work due to just being catchy like the first one in this video. It was catchy and I didn't get the joke of it till I checked out the credits and saw that it was from the NFL.

4. Selection Process
When I receive an entry, I (or other appointed judges) primarily look at two things. "Is it well made?" and "is it funny?" If I answer "no" to both of these questions, then the video will probably be rejected. If I answer "yes" to both of these questions, then the video will probably be accepted.
If the video is funny but poorly made, I may request that you modify or redo it. For videos that are merely "ok", the selection process can be highly subjective. Shorter videos tend to have a much better chance of being accepted.

I am not a sports fan but thats why I check the credits to understand jokes used. But not many people will take the time to do that.

About the humor thing, judges need to be removed, they are not working out. I can do a better job them them simply because I take the time to read the rules and research a joke to make sure if its funny or not. Also I am around all the time to complain about the bad and praise the good as well as answer any questions I can. (no life)

Now I will say I am a better critic then artist because I can't make videos for crap. I have about three good ones and I have yet to even submit them because I can tell they are quality ones I would rather save for AMV Hell 6 and other projects then have rejected because the judges here don't get the jokes or something. I am just good at telling when something is really good and when something is Eh or shat.

Well its easy to tell they are not good at their jobs, I didnt say I was the best just that I can do better. I am sure you could do better too. Its not that hard to look up some information on something to appreciate/understand it or at least notice that something has poor audio or video quality.

Thoughts:

Guys, it's fine if we want to discuss the merits or defects of videos, but I don't think we're accomplishing anything by attacking each other's personalities. I have to say, this is reminding me a lot of some nasty things that some very childish people at my school have sent to each other. This is a great place to debate, but I feel that the general consensus is that the place is for people to be supportive (after all, as one person put it, "we're all geeks, aren't we"?).

Anyway....

Rethinking things, I agree that "Can't Touch This" should go on a list of banned audio (done too many times) and that people need to stop and think about how many Haruhi dance clips have been done (at least 3, I'm pretty sure) before they let any in.

Oh, and the "Aw Carl" is from Llamas with hats. I never liked those videos, so I can see why I didn't like that AMV.

Actually I submitted my clip before they submitted their video.

I don't like censorship. But when people start making mediocre videos with an audio source that has been used well before (I thought that the "Vampire Hunter D" clip that used that song was awesome), there's a problem. There's been a lot of that this season. Very little has been truly, repulsively bad, and there have still always been at least a few good videos per episode.

People sometimes comment that special episodes are often of better quality than regular episodes. I think that restriction sometimes drives people to try harder, and thus we get funnier, tighter, better-thought-out videos. This was true of the first episode of this season, and even though there were several reused songs there, most of it didn't bother me.

Also, I see what your point is, but I watched Mecha Hell and personally didn't like it much. Even though virtually every song had already been used somewhere in AMV Hell, that wasn't really the core problem. I was, in general, disappointed by the editing and by the lack of jokes that worked well on multiple levels (a good example of one of those, I think, is the Evangelion/Barry White skit in 0). Nothing made me laugh hysterically, and the jokes were pretty bland a lot of the time.

In fact, very little in the AMV Hell series has made me laugh hysterically for some time, at least since AMV Hell 5 was released. The last time I can remember really cracking up is when that "Falcor/Atreyu" skit came out....

This is completely understandable and the judges shouldn't be expected to catch every single stole clips, but something has to be said for clips like Lucky Star/Teen Girl Squad which was not only a blatant rip off but it wasn't from some obscure amv hell knockoff but from AMV Heck, which is one of the most popular AMV Hell's for years. Haven't seen any of AMV Nightmare but if its true that this is the 5th time someone has stolen a clip from there, then maybe one of the judges should be given the task to watch the most recent AMV Nightmare.

As for this episode, I actually liked it. Which is odd as I have hated or found the previous minis pretty meh. As for the quality, can't be denied that the standards have dropped by a lot. It was made clear with the last mini which allowed clips with watermarks.

What one finds humorous is possibly the most subjective thing in the world, but even then we can still judge comedy like any other art form. This is why a well told joke, with great timing, writing and overall execution will always be better than someone farting.

If the videos are bad then they shouldn't be accepted to begin with. Thats where the eye for quality comes in on the judges behalf. Some people like to see jokes expand, memes wouldn't be anything without overuse. But then again not all uses of previously used audio are good. I tried to submit one that was bad, its going to be in Paradise 3 because it was rejected and fortunately it was just a bad video that got rejected for being bad.

How many times has the song Hide and Seek been used and yet there was a great use of it with a different video in the last special minis episode. As long as its good its good.

Those are called fans, the majority (who already enjoy previous amv hells) will like anything with the AMV hell brand. The My Little Pony clips from the last minis episode are clearly the highest commented and rated clips of the episode because of My Little pony fans. I enjoy the show as much as the next fan but neither were the best in any manner of that video.

Very true but its part of your job so accept the complaining that will come with it whether you deserve the criticism or not.

I don't think anyone is really bitching about things here aside from EvilestDeath.
And I think there is a fundamental thing that you misunderstand.
The purpose of the judges is not really to make sure that mediocre or bad videos don't get into AMV Minis. The purpose of the judges is to help ensure that good videos don't get left OUT. If we really only let in the best of the best, then you might see about 3-4 episodes released per year. That's probably not enough to satisfy most people.

For amv hell 3, the videos were submitted by email and uploaded via FTP. For the most part, the people who were submitting vids back then are no longer submitting them.

Well, some jokes may be too obscure for AMV Minis. One of my goals is to produce something that a broad group of people can enjoy. If only 10% of people can get a certain joke, it comes at the expense of the other 90% who are just wondering whats going on. Of course, if it was just me, I would probably miss a lot of stuff. I think having these 2 extra judges helps to get a broader viewpoint, so the good ones are less likely to slip though.
More judges might improve things a bit in that respect, but as Chewi pointed out, it may also complicate things a bit.
I might add one or two more judges at some point, but for right now I think we are fine where we are at. Its a careful balancing act to get everything exactly right.

I don't think anyone is really bitching about things here aside from EvilestDeath.
And I think there is a fundamental thing that you misunderstand.
The purpose of the judges is not really to make sure that mediocre or bad videos don't get into AMV Minis. The purpose of the judges is to help ensure that good videos don't get left OUT. If we really only let in the best of the best, then you might see about 3-4 episodes released per year. That's probably not enough to satisfy most people.

Would help if you explained that way back when I started complaining during season 2 episode 2 instead of letting me go on for months. Not like I hid the fact that I dislike the idea of these judges then. And consistently each episode afterwords. I still don't like the idea of them and think things will be better when they are disbanded. But I digress from the real issue, please read on.

Anyways I was focusing on the visual and auditory quality of the videos in this thread not jokes not being good or bad in my opinion. Being nice simply doesn't get the attention issues like I bring up need and it seems I am the only one able to actually look past the insults for attention and see the issue that's actually being complained about. It's called knowing your audience and it seems not to have been working for me so I am changing my style today.

Simply put, there are rules that some of us try and follow strictly and it is very disheartening to see things get buy that flat out break the rules without someone saying why these ones are accepted for not following the guidelines or at least have a few examples of how something could be an exception on the rule page that was clearly updated for videos that are being submitted to this day. That is not too much to ask. Read past the fluff and you'll see I am actually not just bitching but am trying to improve the over all quality to diminish others from complaining. Or hell, pop in once and a while and instead of calling me out on only bitching ask why I am so I can put a more logical form of the issue at hand down like I am now. Thanks for reading and I would appreciate a non-insulting response if you have the time Zarxrax.

we make good quality so its easyer to get the jokes, if your a no lifer who "researches" dem jokes i dont realy see the problem.unless your looking for pro amvs which is an actual full song with added clips [which doesnt fit in minis].

Now "Carl why did you kill this person", with the same anime -I've just seen IN AMV NIGHTMARE X -THIS MAKES ABOUT THE 5TH TIME AMV HELL HAS HAD A AMV NIGHTMARE SKIT AFTER AMV NIGHTMARE WITH THE SAME ANIME AND AUDIO -and they are even inferior in quality/style/direction than the AMV Nightmare ones - which i think is even worse. As I am a fan of AMV Nightmare [in fact, I have helped out with them b4 lol], and I thought the same when I saw those clips. but the school days clip I do agree cant b blamed for copying. Nightmare X had just came out a few weeks ago. There wouldn't be enough time to make the clip, submit it, get it accepted, and in the minis in time. The Umineko clip came from either Nightmare IV or VI i believe, which have premiered over a year ago. Of course, there is no proof of any copying of sorts. After all, these guys may not have seen or heard of Nightmare b4. In fact, I can understand this happening more than the Zetsubou-sensei clips from AMV Hell 5 and S2M1.

Aside from that, it was a great episode. My favs were the pani poni dash and the kore wa zombie desu ka skits.

And EvilestDeath, I see where your coming from, and your right to try a dissuade the copycats from sending in clips. It's insulting to find something you made was carbon copied, (and I'm talking about anything that's EXACTLY the same, same anime/song/scene.) And this is coming from somebody who has had their hard work stolen.

However, I think the judges are working brilliantly. They have stopped some of my clips from getting in, and these were clips I didn't put in any particular effort into. They shouldn't be forced to watch every Hell clone out there like this is a job or something. This is something to do for fun, and that goes for the judges as well.

I think you may be taking these videos a little to seriously. Well, that goes for the clips that aren't exactly funny, not the copied ones, that still counts as bull****. So loosen up and have fun, not to be a dick or anything, but your kinda being a buzz kill.

I liked this one, and not because i accomplished my goal of getting a digimon clip in.
upon browsing the discussions though to see what was going on and the complaining about quality and other things... all i have to say is i don't really want to get involved, but all i will say is that the last specials quality having watermarks was because most source material for regular cartoons are taken strait from the tv program its self most of the time you cant find regular unpolluted source material for those things.

as for things i want to comment to:

like all the other clips that do the same, such as the light and L on a couch talking then light does "falcon Punch" or the one where a guy talks to this robot from excel saga to eat peanuts with her noes and spaghetti through her eyes and they just put a song after, and what about the azumanga one where they are out in the yard saying stuff and mr. kimmura comes and the audio changed to "my minds telling me no.." and they shake the screen with it and he leaves.
really when we get down to it, how is taking audio portions of movies and shows and putting anime to them saying they are amvs upon your logic? your are mainly saying AMV is anime MUSIC video but amv hell goes beyond that to bring a joke and not a fantastic work of art like nostromo. all i intentionally did was something surprising and hopefully if you ever watch digimon the movie again, it will pop into your head ruining the movie XD (like most of amv hell clips have done to me... main lain and i believe i can fly, eva titanic, ect...)

Thank you, but I didnt do any great editing job, just over layed nyan cat on the digimon. if you look closely you can still see parts of his claws and spikes. i prefer the editing i did for my first entry (where is my money - utawerumono) other than that the audio i worked more on, and im fairly proud of it. using the original and a song and giving it depth so that when it was on the cat it was high then away it was low plus when the cat hits patamon i had to do a fade where it was low then hit a high for 2 secs then faded.

every person cant be expected to love every joke. I always thought that was the point of AMV Hell. a collection clips made by fans who all have varying ideas of whats funny, thus allowing almost everyone to have a laugh scattered across each ep.

since humor is the focus of AMV hell, it really allows anyone, no matter their software or editing skills to contribute as long as they have a fun, amusing, or clever idea.
I can understand complaints over video quality, and I'm sure many of the clips I have submitted use video quality most would say is bad, despite looking fine to me on my crappy ancient as hell monitor. in the end though, submissions are open to the entire internet, so what can you do other then sigh, and appreciate the joke anyway. *shrug*


I can only imagine that the judges often get clips, that they think are really funny, but have to really debate with themselves about rejecting or accepting said clip due to any number of rather dramatic visual issues.

I'm loving the Minis series.

But keep in mind, in AMV Hell, two of the funniest AMV creators(Zarx, SSG) made up a large portion of the clips.
I was re-watching AMV Hell 3 and I couldn't stop cracking up.
For one because it was non-stop for over an hour.
And in AMV Hell they announce it around a year in advance.
Giving people ample time to put a lot of effort into their AMVs.
I notice during a lot of Zarx clips he went above and beyond with including custom animations and special effects.

But I love the dose of Minis I get every two weeks or so.
Although, I would love to see Zarx start making clips for Minis again.

Well, there wasn't anything really out of whack, so I guess it worked. However it was also probably my least favorite of any mini, so I didn't really pay attention much...

I'll watch/listen again anyway, and take a look at the waveform and stuff as well.


EDIT: Yeah, looking at the actual waveform shows that everything is relatively nicely even. It is obvious that you normalized the entire audio however. :P (not a pro or a con, just something I noticed)
