I was wondering about this because I was thinking of making my own AMV. I tried using Windows Movie Maker, but from my prospective and others, it is horrible to use. I might give it another shot, but I don't know. So I was wondering what you guys used to make your videos.

I made a total of 2 videos myself... the last one being ALOT better than the first...
I used Windows Movie Maker (WMM) for them both, and i admit, it sucks...

I heard Magix Music Maker is good in stuff like this, as it has slots for several videos/sounds/pics/whatever, at once, instead of just one slot for video, and one for sound like WMM has...
I don't have it though... I wonder if it's freeware... I never really looked for it...

I would try Vegas or Premiere....enhanced with After Effects
