The board game. I've been playing it non-stop on pogo.com, I can't get enough. I've heard though it's one of those nerdy games, like chess. Thoughts? =3

Am I otaku if I like anime immensely and can't get enough of it, plus hang around on AMVHell forums?
Anyway, thoughts: Nah you're good. But there's nothing wrong with embracing your inner nerd. Nerdiness can be a good thing.

Playing Risk doesn't make you a nerd, the board games I play make me a nerd.

Playing it is all good, even though its on pogo, I've always preferred the the real board game. But hell I still enjoy it even though I have not played it in a long time and I still play other things like Battletech and Warhammer 40k

Naw, I like playing Risk too. In IRL, most of the online risk I bump into plays odd, with everyone randomly set across the board. I play where everyone chooses their location of choice, which takes a deal of strategy and can influence the game differently strategically depending on where you place your men.
I prefer claiming "Oceania" and southeast asia, and just build up my dudes while everyone else is killing each other in The America's, Europe, and Africa.

the original risk is mind numbing. the variations like godstorm and 2210 are awesome and we play them at our board game group all the time

On Pogo when you start a new game, you can adjust the rules, so either people can choose their starting territories or it can be random. The last time I played I put most of my men in North America and hoped people would just fight eachother, but the guy in South America was an ass and kept attacking me, so the guy in Europe ended up winning because people mostly ignored him. Well, last I checked my gameboard south america only has two routes to go either attack NA, or attack Africa (or not depending on the game age or version) NA in turn, has three routes to go, either Russia, Greenland, or Mexico. (In some games Hawaii) BEsides its easier to get NA and SA as they are two continents with few countries and one could quickly get two countries as their own, and besides most "American" players I play with want America because well, its America. :P

I freaking love Risk. People who like games like Risk or Chess are nerds. They are people who like a good challenge and strategy.

I'd like Risk more if there weren't some strategies that just make you invincible and if the luck factor were lowered, then again I play some games with a heavy luck factor like Race for the Galaxy. Still if prefer just the right amount of luck for a game, so that skill and strategy is still important, that's Chess, Go, Dominion, Civ (the board game not the video game). And yes I do play Warhammer 40K where so far I can't say luck is as much a factor as the person who is more OP wins

nerds are suposed to be smart as in know alot of facts [games, school or w/e]
an obsesion towards one object while degrating the rest of his abilitys causing or from this cause of lack of merging with socaiety.
a clever person just sunceeds in a tast without knowing fully what hes doing [but not at random]
