It's true that AMV Hell has been ripped off quite a few times by now, but I don't see why that should prevent any future AMV Hell releases. Just because you might never surpass what you did with AMV Hell 3, I don't see why that should prevent any future AMV Hell releases.

I didn't see 0 and Championship Edition until today. Despite the fact that I saw 3 before I saw them, I still enjoyed 0 and CE. I think this is proof that, despite the fact that 3 was possibly the best it'll ever get, it's still possible for good AMV Hells to be released, and still possible for people to enjoy them.

(Championship Edition was my personal favorite, and I liked it more than 3. I just thought that CE had videos that were funnier than 3's, and more funny videos than 3's, period. I think this goes to show that, at least for some people, it IS possible to surpass 3.)

If I'm correct, this is the formula for an AMV Hell:

1. Ask people to make funny clips.
2. String clips together.
3. Release.

If that's the basic formula, then how is it so hard to make another AMV Hell?

Just announce, "There is going to be an AMV Hell 4! Start making and submitting videos!" You will recieve dozens of submissions. Just string them together like you've already done 5 times, and release.

People will jump at the oppurtunity, since it's been so long since the last AMV Hell, and since many people would like to be a part of the making of a new one.

I know that video editing isn't easy. I'm currently taking a college course in video editing, and learning how to use Final Cut Pro. It requires time, effort, and skill. But, dozens of people have already done it before! The sheer number of AMV Hell clips shows that it can be done, has been done, and can still be done. It seems like the only work for Zarxrax to do is to make the intro, line up the clips, add the transitions, make the credits sequence, then slap a number onto the title and put it up for download somewhere.

Will it be better than 3? Who knows. That depends on people's creativity and how funny the videos are.

Will it be better than 3? Who cares. It's another AMV Hell. People will get excited and love it no matter how it compares to 3.

Will there continue to be rip offs? Who cares. The rip offs don't effect the quality of future AMV Hells. They just...exist. Enjoy them if they're good, ignore them if they're bad.

Unless there is some fatal mistake in my reasoning, it seems to me that you just need to ask creative, skilled people to make some clips, make the movie, and release it. If I'm missing something, please enlighten me.

Hmm, it may seem that easy, but it's probably more difficult that it looks to coordinate an effort like that. I would be interested in doing work for a 4 myself, but I'll just wait to see if there are any announcements about it.

Another amv hell is not entirely out of the question, we are just not pursuing it at this point. Actually, I'll even go out on a limb and say we will PROBABLY do 1 more at some point.

However, it does involve a heck of a lot of work to put it all together. I wouldn't hesitate to say that I worked almost 200 hours on AMV Hell 3 and 0 combined, NOT INCLUDING the time spent on the videos I edited for the project. A lot of that time goes to things which may not be readily apparent, such as communicating and working out issues with the many people who submit videos, adjusting audio levels of videos or modifying other technical aspects such as frame rates and aspect ratios, keeping track of all the data--creator names, anime titles, song titles and artists, track orders, which videos are being included or not included... There are a lot of small things involved in making sure that it is a quality project, and the difficulty of keeping it all together increases as the number of contributors and videos increases.

Understood, as clear as crystal.

...the one thing I am still having trouble understanding is why you're not pursuing it at this point. Is it the workload, or because you feel you can't outdo 3, or because you think AMV Hell is stale by now, or because of the rip-offs?

Just don't feel like it right now. I'd like to be able to focus on other amvs, as well as school.

I say the longer the wait, the sweeter it'll be.

I can totally understand wanting to take a breather after such a long project.
