Can't seem to get the video file to work for me for some odd reason. Keep trying to play it in Media Player Classic and Windows Media Player, but all I get is a blank screen.
I'll see if I can't mess with it a bit, but can anyone offer any advice on how to circumvent this?

I could never get it to work with my current players. I had to get the newest version of VLC player to make it play. Then VLC overrided all my icons.

Did you get the Haali patch mentioned Post #1 (http://amvhell.com/showpost.php?p=164379&postcount=1)?
I had the same problem and getting the update fixed me right up. That update plus the latest CCCP = VICTORY
Also AMV Hell 5 is the best since AMV Hell 3!

I just sat down and watched it once again out of sheer boredom.
Since a lot of people complained that too many boring clips were in this one that ruined the whole thing, I took the time noting how many clips I actually liked. It's as follows:
Clips in total: 258
Clips I liked: 67
Clips I thought to be very good: 28
-> Clips I enjoyed in total: 95
-> Clips that were lame/too long/unoriginal/just "meh": 163
Now that sounds surprisingly negative.
Regardless of those numbers I really like AMV Hell 5. It's not as good as 3, but on the same level as 4 for me, and that certinaly isn't bad.
Thanks for the great work once again!

Not to come across as brown-nosed, but I signed up on this site just so that I could compliment you guys on Hell 5. Seriously. As soon as I saw the clip of Unicron eating Cybertron's moon paired with the "Nomnomnom" song, I knew this one would be a jewel. Every single clip had me at least smiling.
I have to admit, after several viewings, I think I can honestly say I like it more than AMV Hell 3.
The next AMV Hell will come out December 21, 2012 and be called AMV Hell 6: End of the World Edition
AMV Hell 666 would also be a quite fitting title
I also heartily endorse this notion, but think it would be more fitting still to make a grand total of Nine feature-length AMV Hells, considering that Hell consists of Nine Circles, according to Dante's Divine Comedy.
... Besides, that way, we get more. XD
Sorry again if this seemed like sucking up, but I've been a long-time fan of the series, and I just thought I should let those who contributed to Hell 5 know how much I enjoyed their work... While also dropping in an idea for your collective consideration, so that I might be able to contribute a bit in my own, small way.

Dammit, Malev, now that Rozen Maiden - Master of Puppets clip is stuck in my head.
Also, on an unrelated note, I downloaded AMV Hell 5 via the animemusicvideos.org link & converted it using Format Factory to WMV. When I played it, there were parts when there was no audio for a second, then went back to normal. Anyone know the problem?

Roll had some AWESOME clips.
Sugar: A Little Snow Fairy - Put Some Sugar on Me
Grave of the Fireflies - Disco Inferno
Super Gals - Clueless Theme
Golden Boy - White Girls
Negima - Magic Stick
Azumanga Daioh - Shout Your Lungs Out
Azumanga Daioh - Must Be Dreaming
AND THE INFAMOUS Outlaw Star - Star Trek Rhapsody.
Man, that Star Trek clip was awesome.
I realize this was posted a while ago and I'm just replying now but fully half of those clips are among my favourite AMV Hell clips ever, specifically Magic Stick, Must be Dreaming and Star Trek Rhapsody. Wish he could have sent us some more from 'up there'. R.I.P mate.
Back on topic, I personally liked both AMV Hell 3 and 4 over 5, not saying it was bad just saying that I didn't dislike 4 as much as some of you guys appear to. Also I had no problems with any video/audio issues at all when I first watched it "opening night".

Dr. Shameless - Dr. Feel Good
Golden Boy - Dunkie Butt
Puni Puni Poemy - Brick House
Bible Black - Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)
Bible Black - The Touch
Various - Greatest Hits
& Princess 69 - Come On Come On

:bzz: *dances* Thanks! XD
And yeah, I'd put this Hell in the same ballpark as the others. There's something in it for everyone! I think whatever people don't like repeated is what they've seen recently - I made two DN clips for this one because it's... well, I'm a fanatic. >_> But I purposefully rounded it out with a bunch of others, and series that I hadn't even touched with editing in ages. Because I knew people would be sort of all "DN, again?" (trust me, as a fanatic I'm used to hearing that). But I'm glad the vuvuzela one was a hit (I still savor the cheer I heard it get at the Otakon preview). Trust me - if fangirls WERE given vuvuzelas, they'd be using them in that scene. >___>
Another thing that keeps things from being repeated without standing out is art style. If something's got a very distinctive art style (like DN) that doesn't blend as well with some of the other series, it's going to stick out. Like, I'm not hearing too many complaints about the ~moe~ series that got repeated. There's repetition all over the place; you just don't notice it when it's something you want to see.
In any case, I think my absolute favorites were Slayers/Lion King, Die Scarface Die, When a Man loves a Chicken, "Oh cool, you have a dog??", I Threw it on the Ground, Ouran/Mustard (sheer wtf factor was amazing), Haydn's Surprise Symphony, and ALL the Tenchi clips (especially the gaming one and the Aeka/Heavy one).
I'll admit I was sad about the Tea Partay clip because I'd edited a (granted, ****ty) video of that back in '08. But I can't blame anyone - the song just SCREAMS Ouran, and this one was done beautifully. (Oh and sad that someone got to Rebel L before I did. Hee.)
also apparently everything I write is tl;dr lately so, sorry.
Yes, my "chicken" clip now makes it *two* beastiality videos I've gotten into Hell (I also did the "Dirty Deeds Done with Sheep in 4). My mom would be so proud.
And I'd had the idea for the Rebel L forever--yay for being an old fart. =D

Try to convert it into iPod mp4 format. Alive Video Converter can do this pretty well. Lots of other converters and video editors can do this too.

A couple *dozen* songs from this one have been stuck in my head and in my wife's head for the last couple weeks. And I've watched it a half dozen times (since I show it to anyone who's over and I can sit in a couch for 90 minutes). So far, no complaints from the guests.
Only complaint really is from me, and that's the video encoding, expanded on elsewhere. It really is a shame that this is more or less locked to our computers when non-PC devices are surging. Transcoding again (which I'm doing now, watching my CPU temp climb above boiling) is most likely going to decrease quality - but nothing I can do about it. Speaking of computing and anime trends, all displays and all new anime have been in 16:9 for years now, yet Hell still persists on in 4:3. I know all of our classic anime series are forever that way, but it doesn't mean that we should be watching widescreen stuff double-letterboxed on our computers and TVs. Seriously - every laptop, monitor, and TV in the last half dozen years has been widescreen, and even before that it was a reasonably large percentage. So why are we still encoding video in 4:3?
Oh, and for a free and simple way to transcode AMV Hell to a more universal format, try Handbrake and set to Apple Universal. I'll let you know how it looks, assuming my CPU doesn't melt itself.

Or... maybe it could have been encoded in a vaguely compatible format to begin with, and we wouldn't need as much re-encoding and "just use this codec pack", or the catch-all of VLC. We get it - VLC can play any file on the planet - but we don't always want to play this on our computers.
I'm going to be a little bitch (hey, at least I know I'm being a bitch :-) ) and say that a more standardized H.264-based video is the best way to go for widespread support. H.264 has hardware decoding support across every mobile device I can think of (phones, iPods, PSP, etc), it's supported by set-top boxes and consoles (AppleTV, GoogleTV, PS3, XBox360, Roku, etc), and it's built into Mac OS X and Windows 7 (Linux is another story, where most any codec has to be added manually due to patent encumbrance - and please don't get me started on Ogg/FLAC - this is about universal playability).
MP4/H.264/AAC can be played by pretty much everything under the sun - as long as it's encoded with proper options. If there is any interest in finding a single format that can play more universally, there's a very good discussion on the PSP and iDevices here (http://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=8405). AMV Hell is already in the right codec, just with problematic options. I'm always a bit boggled that we're 99% of the way there, and trip ten feet from the finish line over this.
Okay, something constructive to make up for my bitchiness. :-) Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/), which is available for all platforms, can convert AMV Hell perfectly. I've found the "Apple Universal" preset to work beautifully, at a 20% file size increase. I'm pretty sure this would be much less on the original source since there wouldn't be an additional intermediate encode. For now, this works for me, since it makes the file play everywhere, and I can even edit it without any further encoding (I can just clip parts of the video as needed and do the equivalent of a streamcopy - no re-encoding).

I mentioned this on my review at animemusicvideos.org, but I'm having some kind of video corruption from 28:45~29:15 (Rozen Maidden ? Master of Pupperts through Utena ? Mickey). I've tried downloading it on four seperate occasions, twice from AMV.org directly and twice from the Torrent here and it corrupts at the same point each time. The audio plays just fine, but the video stutters and freezes every 2-3 seconds during the time I outlined. Does anyone else have this problem?

i have never had any issues with any amv hell files, no sound jumps, missing frames or anything. only time i convert them is when people on here need them in a different format for some reason. as for you who is asking about amv hell 5. why not just download one of the versions from my server. FTP://98.169.241.201 username is amv password is password. just enter the ftp address into you windows browser address bar.
 Sorry guys, confused on a lot of the techy stuff. I've already posted this on a new thread (my mistake for not looking hard enough for a thread discussing this already) ::Sorry if this is a waste of some people's time, but I've looked all over! I tried converting it, all which way of adding it in itunes, directly into my ipod folder. Nothing seems to work! when Itunes tries to convert it i get the 2002 error, when i try to drop it off into my ipod i get the error that it cannot be copied b/c my ipod can't play that file. I've tried from my itunes to my ipod. I've tried converting it into a mp4, MPEG, AVI, and WMV.
I have a 120 classic ipod, i think 6th gen, it has some problems now and then. but i got it for free :P and my itunes is updated to date. I can't get AMV hell 5 on my ipod, if anyone can help i would be in debt to you.
Again, sorry if this is a waste of some people's time, I've tried HandBrake, and encodeHD, and i think one other. (Would love it if people put it in nooby terms, i'm just getting into some more techy stuff but this is not my field)

Been gone a while, but I finally got a chance to watch 5 and I must say SSGWNBTD did a pretty damn good job.
I thought it was possibly the best one next to 3 which was the reason I got into anime all together.
Also good work to everyone who helped out with it and worked hard to make such hilarity. I personally thought a lot of the DBZ clips were completely freaking priceless. A lot of good clips in it and several that made me wanna watch the anime used, which in my book is success for a clip.
Also, kudos for dedicating it to Ronnie James Dio, I am a huge Sabbath fan (Both Ozzy and Dio years)

While most information so far is correct but just because you have codecs doesnt mean its gonna use them. A prime example is windows 7's built in H264 codec that does DXVA always overrides any H264 decoder you have set in MPC or direct show. You cant fix the problems till you know whats using what, MPC will tell you all of this by right clicking and going to the filters during media playback.
Also to note while H264 is supported on all kinds of devices its not widely supported on devices when the H264 stream is shoved away in a MKV container. There are a very few devices that can natively open a MKV container.
